Our Values

Your Health

Your health comes first. The reason we make supplements in capsules or sachets, and now gummies too, is that we strongly believe this to be the best way to take your live cultures. Many yoghurt drinks with live cultures have extremely high doses of sugar which can be damaging to the health. Light versions of these drinks often contain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, a chemical believed by many to have toxic effects on the human body.

Our live culture strains endure rigorous tests to ensure their survival through the stomach acidity and biliary salts, as well as to ensure their ability to adhere to the epithelial cells in the gut wall lining. These factors are absolutely vital in a trustworthy live culture.

Last but certainly not least, we appreciate that different people take supplements for different reasons. So if you are looking for the support of Saccharomyces Boulardii and your partner is looking for One Week Flat, we offer each of you a specific combination of friendly bacteria strains.

At Optibac, we strive to use the minimum amount of packaging possible. As part of our brand refresh earlier this year, we switched out the old CSP vials we used for our capsule supplements because we wanted to opt for a more envionmentally friendly option. So, we have introduced new glass jar packaging for our capsule supplements. This packaging is completely recyclable, from the glass jar itself, to the metal lid, to the FSC-approved outer carton. Not only are these more eco-conscious, but they don’t compromise on quality – the live cultures supplements are still stored completely safely and securely. Overall, we have reduced the plastic in our capsule supplements packaging by 96%.

Furthermore, our brand-new Kids Gummies and Adult Gummies come in completely plastic-free packaging, with a home-compostable pouch and recyclable outer carton. Our Baby Drops also come in a glass bottle and recyclable carton. Again, this does not compromise the high quality of the friendly bacteria in the supplements themselves.

Our powder supplements are still packaged in sachets, as this is currently the best option for keeping the live cultures fresh. We strongly believe that putting loose powders in a pot or jar which is then opened daily may diminish the viability of the bacteria, as it can be weakened or contaminated by water vapours & pollutants in the air.

Not only do we consider the environment in our outwardly visible efforts, but the environment is always on our minds in the heart of the Optibac head office. It may seem small, but we all encourage each other to reuse and recycle our paper, turn off unused lights and computers, and boil no more water than necessary for the morning round of tea.

Charitable organisations & partnerships

We also strive to support our surrounding community. Wren Laboratories gives annual donations to Shine Charity, the association for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus, which is the UK's leading registered charity providing information and advice about spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Optibac supports charity

Since 2011 we have donated 1% of our turnover each year to the Aga Khan University Hospital's Patient Welfare Programme in Kenya. The Patient Welfare Programme, a project run by the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, provides assistance to patients who would otherwise be unable to afford medical care - regardless of gender, faith or ethnic origin.

We also regularly contribute to the Whole Planet Foundation who works to empower individuals in 40 countries (and growing) around the world.

In September 2014, Optibac launched a partnership with the international women's rights charity, Womankind Worldwide, with donations being made to the charity for every pack sold of our supplement, For Women.

Finally, over the years we've been delighted to take part in charity events like the Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning and Christmas Jumper Day to help raise money for Save the Children.

And last but certainly not least, one of our core values is to deliver value to you. As the live cultures industry is still relatively young, many products on the market are high in cost. As a young, UK-based company we do all that we can to minimise costs and to keep our products at a fair price, without compromising the quality of the supplements.

So now that you've read about the values behind our company, and hopefully you're impressed, take a look at What we do, or Why Optibac?
